Lt Gen Balbir Singh Sandhu is a soldier and a sportsman. Commissioned into Army Service Corps in Dec
1978 and superannuated in Apr 2017 as Director General of Supplies and Transport (DGST) heading his
parent service. He also held the appointment of Director General of Information Technology of Indian
Army. As a sportsman, he represented Indian Army and Indian Polo Association (IPA) teams at national
and international levels and is currently the Vice President of IPA . Post retirement, he participates in
seminars and writes for strategic think tanks such as CLAWS, USI and CENJOWS. He has submitted his
thesis for PhD on North East India. He is recipient of Ati Vashisht Sewa Medal(AVSM) and Vashisht Seva
Medal(VSM).
